How to Maintain an Alkaline Body

Our body contains a PH balance, which is controlled by what we eat, food falls into 1 of 2 categories: acidic and alkaline.


The scale ranges from 0 to 14, and the ideal PH is 7.35. When this drops below the optimum PH, the body becomes too acidic, which can cause symptoms such as indigestion, pain in the chest, nausea, hunger and belching.


However, having a more alkaline body will leave you feeling energized and vitalized. This can be done by making changes to our diet.


When the body is too acidic it can take its toll on our bones and muscles as we get older. There are some studies, which suggest an alkaline rich diet is linked to lower rates of cancer. It has also been suggested that by consuming alkaline producing foods will help us to lose weight naturally.


Some small fixes for a more alkaline happy body:


1.Start the day with a glass of warm water and lemon. Whilst lemon is acidic, it will have the opposite effect on your body.


2.Try having a meat free day a week, as when meat is metabolized, there is some acid reside left over.


3.Feeling peckish? Try having a handful of raw almonds. These super nuts are full of alkaline minerals like calcium and magnesium, which help the body balance out acidity as well as balancing bloody sugar levels.


4.Veg out. Try incorporating more vegetables into your diet, veggies such as peppers, squash, sweet potatoes and asparagus are good options.


5.Drink your greens. A green drink is a powdered supplement mixed with water. They can consist of: wheatgrass, spirulina, kelp and algae. Beware; these drinks are potent so it might be worth adding them to your morning veggie smoothie to help them go down a little easier.
